A site specific field recording installation, it was created with the purpose of capturing the desert continuous movement, in particular Sand storms. By the insertion of a suspended 200 meter metal cable, different built microphones are connected, using all the platform as a single receptor. The wire is a vibration conductor, not only the different impacts between sand and metal are recorded in a meticulous way, but also different electrical charges present in the clouds of sand storms are here transformed in to frequencies. In the traditional field recording practice; the recorder researches the environment looking for audio material, but in this piece a new undefined place is created, through the installation of an extension this wire becomes a sculptural border between the recording technology and the Natural world. The insertion of this physical component in the landscape is meant to canalize a natural action, to read the already present information in a new way. Thus, the piece has been installed only for a period of 24 hours, anticipating the occurrence of Sand Storms in a frontier Dune (frontier dunes are located in between a vast flat desert area, and the beginning of a dune region, they absolve the first impacts of wind and Sand Storms). A sublime and sensitive sculptural vein that carries and communicates between two spectrum's, conducting the violent physical action of a dune sight in to sound waves . Site Specific installation/Field Recording, 200 meter metal cable, two inserted woods, four transducer based microphones, one dynamic mic, two portable recorders. 23hour piece Sahara Desert 2015 |
