( UN ) MEASUREMENTS
2 # THE WEIGHT OF REPETITION
Kinetic Sound Sculpture for one prepared tree Branch,
five prepared transducer microphones, sound mixer and four speakers. Part of Solo exhibition (Un) Measurements at Meet Factory, Prage, Czech Republic 2016
A dead tree was carved removing the parts where fungi and larvae thrived. Bac-teria still inhabits this place, they are the architects of an ongoing typography. This piece creates different axis or rotation cycles. There are 5 reading points built upon prepared microphones - they act as needles reading the surface of the tree within specific orbits. Since the branch is irregular, a single rotation contains six different reading cycles. Through the course of time this “seg-ments” or “measurements” align together in one specific moment between each 12 rotations. A polyrhythmic interplay between order and chaos in a constant
Consider a mechanic rotation, like the motor of a car : it has a fixed cycle but no rotation is exactly equal to its previous, there is a direction but total repetition is impossible, an external signal contaminates slowly but always. Such is the nature of all matter, a cyclic being but never a static one.
